Himejii Gardens
Oh what might have been; back in March we were about to leave for Japan for a 2 week holiday when disaster struck the country. We ultimately chose not to go.
Here in Adelaide we have a small sampling of Japanese culture at the Himejii Gardens on South Terrace. Adelaide formed a sister city relationship with Himejii in 1982.

Red Moon
Very early this morning I arose to view a lunar eclipse. The sky was partially cloudy, but luckily it cleared for a while to get a good view.

June Theme Day: Under Construction
A new bridge is being built to replace the old King Street Bridge at Glenelg. This project commenced in March and is due for completion in December this year at a cost of $9 million. The first half of the bridge has been demolished and this week pylons are being erected.
The bridge links a small peninsula at North Glenelg. During the construction period motorists have to detour several kilometres and boats (including mine) on moorings near the bridge have been temporarily located. Come on December!
Today is City Daily Photo bloggers' theme day: Under Construction. Click here to view thumbnails for all participants

Go Crows!
Last Saturday the Adelaide Crows played the newly formed AFL team, The Goldcoast Suns.
After a shakey start Adelaide won by a comfortable margin. The game was played at Adelaide's AAMI Stadium.
This was the first game I have attended for several years; obviously I am not a keen Australian Rules Football follower. I think Adelaide won the last time I attended - maybe I should go more often!

ABC Wednesdays - A for Armstrong
This is Lance Armstrong with his Radio Shack team at the head of the peleton in today's stage of the 2011 Your Down Under. Lance Armstrong has been quite a draw card here in Adelaide; this is his third appearance in our special event and is to be his final race in the International Cycling Union's ProTour.
Armstrong, seven-time Tour de France winner, is also a cancer survivor. His return to racing three years ago was partly motivated as a chance to promote his cancer research message. Here is a video recorded three years ago when he arrived in Adelaide in which he talks about the race, South Australia and cancer.
This is the start of the eighth round of the ABC Wednesday meme which was initiated by Denise Nesbitt. To find out more about ABC Wednesdays and see other participants' contributions click here.

Jacarandas
This year afforded us some exceptional jacaranda blooms as seen here on an Adelaide suburban street.
