No sailing today! This is the entrance to the marina at Glenelg, taken today on one of our wildest days for a while.
Cloudy but fine; this is the way I spent the first day of winter - sailing in very mild and pleasant conditions off Glenelg.
Today I went cycling in the rain! We don't really complain about wet weather because we have had drought conditions for several years.
Today I went on a bike ride from McLaren Vale along a rail trail to Willunga. While we were at Willunga there was a deluge. The rain eased and we headed back to McLaren Vale only to be met with another heavy shower. Fortunately we were able to shelter along the way until the rain eased again.
Along the rail trail shelters like these have been erected on the sites of former railway sidings.
This afternoon I drove to the beach hoping to photograph some kiteboarders; but there were none to be seen - obviously too windy and rough. This is a view looking south along West Beach towards the boat ramp.

These photos are from my archives; I had intended going out yesterday afternoon to take some fresh shots but I renigged on doing so as we had our hottest day for five years; 43.2 degrees Celsius (109.7 degrees F) at 3pm. Today is forecast to be even hotter.

Today was another glorious mild summer's day and I made the most of it; a 32 degree Celsius maximum and winds around 10 knots. I took this shot as we headed back towards the Holdfast Shores Marina at Glenelg.
This was a very welcome sight. Over the last two days Adelaide has received about 30mm rain, the most significant fall for at least a couple of months. A good soak like this will really help our parched gardens.
There have been quite a few days like this lately. We have had a little more than our average rain this month, but there has been lots of fine weather too; even clear and sunny days.
We have had some gloomy weather of late, but some days there are times like this when the sun comes out to paint pretty pictures in the sky.
Winter in Adelaide - today it was 16 degrees C with a clear blue sky. I rode my bike to the Adelaide Airport to photograph the West Beach Bureau of Meteorology weather station.
This are some of the group of people we spent the weekend with at Kapunda, 80 km north of Adelaide. On Anzac Day we cycled to Greenock and back; about 35 kilometres - some of it on dirt roads such as this. On this day we were fortunate as it only rained slightly, while we were under shelter in the town having lunch.
On the Saturday things were rather different. After about an hour of riding we were caught in a downpour and found some shelter under trees. Towards the end of the ride we were less fortunate; the rain set in as we cycled home. As unpleasant as it was none of us really complained as this is what the country needs; lots of rain. Has the drought broken? We sure hope so!
Whew it's hot mate! South Australia has now had 11 successive days above 35 degrees celsius (95 degrees fahrenheit). This has broken the all time record for any capital city in Australia's recorded history. And we have more to come; a change is forecast for next Wednesday - that will make 16 days in a row.
Is this a coincidence? I suspect not - the advertisers near the time & temperature display screen are an air-conditioning firm and an electricity supplier.
