ABC Wednesdays - Q for Queen

Queen Adelaide was married to King William IV who was on the throne in England when South Australia was settled; Adelaide was named after her.

A full size statue of Queen Adelaide takes pride of place in the foyer of the Adelaide Town Hall.

Woodley Wines of Nuriootpa (established in 1858) have a range of wines using the Queen Adelaide label. They are quite reasonably priced; the tawny port pictured is very pallatable. I know because I just sampled it. Oh what a burden it is to be a CDP blogger!

That's a Queen I've never heard of. I never knew Adelaide was named after an English queen! Good one!

Arnea - I suspect you mean Knappstein wines; a winery in the Clare Valley in SA. They have a web site and cellar door sales, not that that will help you unless you visit again!

A tasty "queen" I am sure. I chose to use nearby Quadra Island for Q. It is a fun vacation destination that you can see by clicking here. – Margy

Queens are included in a number of ABCs this week. I have a Queen's Cup, and a second queen post as an afterthought. I even saw Queen Adelaide mentioned already. Good post and a nice statue.

I, too, learned something new and next time I'm at the liquor store, I'll check and see if we carry that wine.

Very interesting history.

Some of our places like the Victoria Theatre and Concert Hall and Victoria Street, etc were named after Queen Victoria of England.
