For the past ten years the Clipsal 500 car race is held in the streets of Adelaide. Every year the stands and other facilities are erected in the parklands and along the streets. I took this photo this morning; the one below was taken in November last year.
So for nearly half a year, work associated with this event takes place in the parklands; construction of the stands and then the packing up and storing until next year . . . . I guess it keeps some people employed!
Prior to the Clipsal 500 being held here, Adelaide hosted a Formula One event for eleven years. Both of these events have generated lots of tourist dollars for the state; but due to disruptions to everyday life in and near the City are not supported by all.
So here it is; Clipsal 500 for 2009, March 19 -22 - "Bring it On!" This photo was taken during the Australia Day Parade. I am not a huge motor racing fan, but I usually go to join the party and to get some photos.

I'm glad you went - I enjoyed the photos!
Must be an exciting event for those who enjoy racing. I rather like to hear the sounds of the race course, myself, and have been known to occasionally watch the NASCAR races (and I'm an old lady.)
Interesting "C" post.
great Colors on that Car
Ok - I have to admit that this C is nothing for me ;) I`ll send my husbond ;)
...and 'B' is for boobies, which is the main reason men go! lmao. Of course my hubby goes for the cars. Yeah, righty-o :)

Bring it on, nice shots/ Tyra
Hi again, I must say you have a great blog here, I like it a lot. I have actually been to 'your' town a few years ago and liked it a lot, I also went out to Glenelg which also was a great and 'fun' place. Lovely beaches.
Take CAre/ Tyra
What an incredible amount of work must be involved in all of that! I wouldn't fancy all the noise, but I know many would love it.
Thanks for your entry.
I think this is an event I would love to photograph.
Lots of nice colors...sounds like you all are having quite the weather!
Interesting and colorful race car and place. Good information.
A road race? Like the TT in the Isle of Man!
Do the people of Adelaide like having it, or do they find it a nuisance?
Jay - yes some people complain as it is noisy and traffic is disrupted.
Tyra - Clipsal is a company name; they manufacture electrical goods; plugs and switches. Clipsal sponsor the event.
i remember this race.thanx
