May Theme Day - my local store

This month's City Daily Photo theme day is "my favourite corner store or local shop."

When I was a child we had two corner stores within walking distance of home. That was the norm then, but now most people shop at large supermarkets and most corner stores have gone.

My favourite local shop is a smallish independently owned supermarket, and it is within walking distance of home. It has competitive pricing and has some of the qualities of a corner store; good quality fruit and veg and friendly and helpful staff.

Over 170 other CDP sites are participating in this month's theme day. Please pay them a visit.

I don't drive, so I tend to shop at smaller grocery stores. But it's great to live close enough to walk to your store.

I'm glad you still are able to walk to a good store. They are rare.

Happy Theme Day!

Some of our smaller groceries offer items that we cannot find at the big supermarket. And I enjoy the personal approach that this little groceries offer, but lacking in the big supermarket.

We also have a lot of supermarkets of all sizes but, reading the comments about "my" bakeries today, I realize how we are lucky in France to still have so many attractive shops in center-towns...Often more expensive but with high quality and charm (if the owner is kind...not always :-(
I wish you a nice Sunday, dear Gordon.

There is something to be said for the small shops. Usually that means they are the oldest and carry goods and services that people actually need and buy.

Nice photo.

Most local shops are gone here as well, but we luckily have some in walking distance. I prefer them to the bigger shops as the people working there are usually very nice and helpful.

Yes, I agreed too, sometimes I too shop at small convenience shops cause they are just a doorstep away from me and I knew most of the staffs there and they are friendly and personal and they could cost cheaper too.
