Today I went to the first day of the 2008 Royal Adelaide Show. Over the next week I will give you an insight into one of Adelaide's popular annual events.
Yes the Adelaide Show has lots of "traditional" farm animals like sheep, cattle, pigs and poultry on display. A relatively new industry in Australia is the farming of the South American alpaca. First imported into Australia in 1989, they now number in excess of 40,000. Alpacas are bred for their fibres which are used for garments. At shows around the country farmers bring their prized animals to be judged.
