Tonight there will plenty of New Year's Eve partying here; on the boats and in the cafes and restaurants. Nearing midnight many of the boats will head out to sea to view a fireworks display at the end of the jetty. Crowds of other people will line the shore to watch the spectacle.

Crowds of other people will line the shore to watch the spectacle.Today has been sweltering, 42C maximum, so I suspect tonight there could be record numbers at the beach trying to cool off. Usually I would be part of the action here, but tonight for a change Bev and I are going to a party at a friend's house in the hills. Let's hope there are no FIREworks there; unfortunately bushfires are a real threat at this time of the year.
