December the 28th is Proclamation Day. On this day in 1836 Governor John Hindmarsh's secretary, George Stevenson, read a document known as the Proclamation of South Australia. Every year since a ceremony has been held under the "Old Gum Tree" at Glenelg.
December the 28th is Proclamation Day. On this day in 1836 Governor John Hindmarsh's secretary, George Stevenson, read a document known as the Proclamation of South Australia. Every year since a ceremony has been held under the "Old Gum Tree" at Glenelg.Today's ceremony was attended by hundreds of descendants and other interested persons. The Proclamation document was read and addresses were made by the Mayor of Holdfast Bay, the Governor of South Australia and a representative for the state's Premier.
