This monument is located part way along Anzac Highway, about two kilometres from Glenelg. There is a duplicate at the City end.ANZAC is an acronym for the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps. On the reverse side to the 'diggers' pictured above, is a map of the two countries that formed the alliance.
The images are cut outs on a large gun-metal grey sheet of steel; by day they are highlighted by a bright orange panel behind and at night the panel is illuminated.

Hi Gordon,
We have an ANZAC Ave, At one end, near to Auckland Univeristy is the Copthorne Hotel. You walk down towards the city, you get the New Zealand Customs Service.
Do you go to the Dawn services? I have a friend in her 80s, every ANZAC dawn without fail, she marches in the parade. She was in the war.

I love your "shoot the photographers" shot from yesterday and seeing all their gear. I recognize one of my lenses. Wish I could tote around two cameras at a time! Wish I were in shorts, too. It is rather cold and foggy up here in my end of the northern hem. Cheers!

Interesting, I never knew what ANZAC stood for.
Ann - I have been going to dawn services for about 10 years; I play in a concert band and we play each year. It is interesting to see that the numbers of people attending is on the increase.

For a long while I didn't know what ANZAC stood for. Then I came across a recipe for Anzac biscuits (very tasty, by the way) and mentioned them to my Mum, who told me what she remembered about the Australian and New Zealand troops during the war. She said they suffered very heavy losses and were very brave. I've never forgotten that.
That's a very different memorial. It must look striking at night.

You stirred an interest in ANZAC. I was reading yesterday and found that there is an ANZAC bay in New Zealand. I have been to Coromandel but don't know if I have been to that bay.
I took my sister to an Anzac Parade at the War Memorial in Auckland.

Very interesting monument. I visited the war monument in Melbourne and it was a very informative and educational tour. My son was so interested in all the medals that was displayed there.
