ABC Wednesdays - R for Retirement Village

This is the entrance to the Pasadena Village, one of many such retirement complexes that have been built in the Adelaide metropolitan area in recent years.

This complex consists of 47 new two and three bedroom houses with features such as a lock up garage with a door into the house, a security system and access to emergency medical assistance. The houses have ducted airconditioning and modern fittings. The gates into the Village also have a security system installed for residents' peace of mind after hours.

The residents have access to shared facilities like the park shown here; a barbecue are and a bowling green. Also on site is a large community room where residents may choose to socialise.

I know some people who live in such a village and they love the lifestyle. In a village like this neighbours would get to know each other more easily that in general suburbia.

Adelaide has changed a lot since I was there some years ago.

I'm already looking forward to living in a retirement village! I'm 32 but am saving up to live in Florida when the time comes:)

This is becoming a popular idea worldwide. Interesting choice, but for me France, no complex is my choice.

I don't think we have reached that point quite yet, but there are apartment houses that are designed with pensioners in mind.

Babooshka, I could settle on France too, especially in a quiet little rural village.

Hi Gordon! Not a bad idea at all to go and live in a house like that! I wish these houses were here in my country in my village!

Looks very nice and tempting...but I'm not sure about "knowing" your neighbors...maybe in Adelaide...not so much in the US...

What a perfect choice for R-day. We have lots of this type of "village" here in the urban areas of Canada - seems like the thing to do is to live in a place like this.
